Here is a list of foods under 100 calories. They include protein-packed, fruit, veggie, dairy, and smart snacks.

It’s important to stay full and yet lose unwanted pounds. Protein is satisfying. Here are three protein-packed foods:
• Hard-boiled egg
• One piece of beef jerky
• 3 oz (0.11 kg). Deli turkey

I know most people like fruit. They are low in calories and fat but rich in nutrients. If you have diabetes and watching your weight, check the portion sizes you can eat, as fruits have natural sugar:
• 1 medium apple
• 1 banana
• 2 cups (0.47 l) watermelon cubes

Wow, let’s look at veggies and how good they are for you. You can eat them straight or with a ½ cup of salsa and 1 cup of veggies for under 100 calories:

  • Celery sticks
  • Carrot sticks
  • Mushrooms

Dairy snacks with less than 100 calories. Yes, there are
• 4 oz (0.15 kg). 2% cottage cheese
• One container (170g) Greek yogurt
• 2 oz (ca. 76 g). Low-fat cheese cubes

There are smart snacks that can protect your heart:
• 25 pistachios
• Handful of almonds
• 3 cups (0.71 l) air-popped popcorn

With such a small list you can see what you can eat for 100 calories or less. If you do some homework, you can find other 100 calorie foods. Other than the yogurt listed above, there are no other packaged foods.

It has been my experience that 100 calorie packaged foods such as some granola bars, might be 100 calories, but there are additives. It is best to stay away from as much prepackaged food as possible.

You should eat whole foods. If you like granola bars, for example, you can find recipes to make your own from scratch. It might be a little time-consuming but well worth it.

At least you will know what’s in the product. Just Google or Bing what recipe you want to make, and you will find large numbers out there. One of the exceptions is Kind bars, which the company makes with simple ingredients. You can find them in just about any grocery, drug, or health food stores.

One key to healthy eating is to eat in moderation. If you want chips, then weigh out one ounce, which is a normal portion size on the bag. Just some food for thought.
